Better The Devil, a 2-year-old colt by WinStar Farm stallion Daredevil, impressively won the Glasgow EBF Maiden Auction Stakes at Hamilton Park in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, becoming his sire's first winner.
Better The Devil raced to the lead shortly after the start of his career debut and held his rivals at bay to win the five-furlong event clear by 2 3/4 lengths under jockey Ben Curtis. He is the second winner out of the Henny Hughes mare Hen Reception, a half-sister to Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes winner Ruby's Reception and graded stakes-placed Heritage Hall.
Bred in Pennsylvania by Two-Turn Farm LLC, Better The Devil is trained by Archie Watson. The colt, a Keeneland September graduate, is owned by Better The Devil.
Daredevil is represented by first 2-year-olds in the sale ring this year up to $250,000. On the track, he captured the G1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park at two, earning a 107 Beyer Speed Figure, the fastest Beyer by a 2-year-old since Uncle Mo and The Factor. Daredevil is by More Than Ready out of the multiple G1-producing Forty Niner mare Chasethewildwind. He stands for $7,500 S&N.
