Grade 1 winner and Grade 1 sire Bellamy Road has moved to Dutchess Views Farm in Pine Plains, N.Y., where he will stand the 2016 breeding season for a fee of $7,500 S&N. Bellamy Road had previously stood at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.
“I'm excited to see Bellamy Road continue his career in New York where he's done special things, both as a racehorse and as a sire,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. “He has a lot of great opportunities in the pipeline, including a couple Grade 1 two-year-old fillies in 2015. WinStar is keeping an interest in Bellamy Road, and we think he is well positioned for the New York market.”
Bellamy Road has sired eight stakes winners so far in 2015, including Grade 2 winner Bellamy Hope and Grade 3 winner Iczotitla. His 2-year-olds this year are led by the stakes-winning filly, Constellation, an $800,000 OBS March purchase who recently won the Furlough S. at Aqueduct and placed in the Spinaway S. (G1) at Saratoga. Among Bellamy Road's other promising 2-year-olds is Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) performer Land Over Sea, runner-up in the Chandelier S. (G1) at Santa Anita and third in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) – both behind Songbird.
Bellamy Road entered stud in 2007 at Hurricane Hall in Kentucky after an illustrious racing career that saw him set a records in the Wood Memorial S. (G1) as a 3-year-old. He dominated the Wood by a record 17 ½ lengths in stakes-record time of 1:47.16 – also equaling the 1 1/8-mile track record at Aqueduct. Bellamy Road earned a 120 Beyer speed figure for the performance, marking the highest Beyer ever recorded by a horse prior to the Kentucky Derby (G1) – a race he would go on to be the favorite in.
In 2011, Bellamy Road enjoyed early success at stud with his first crop of 3-year-olds, siring a Wood Memorial (G1) winner with his colt Toby's Corner. WinStar acquired Bellamy Road in the summer of 2011, and the 13-year-old son of Concerto has stood at WinStar for the last four seasons.
The deal was brokered by Matt Bowling of Bowling Bloodstock. Chris Bernard will be the syndicate manager for Bellamy Road. For more information, please contact Chris Bernard at (914) 850-9769, or by email at [email protected]
