Awesome Again, the leading active sire of Breeders' Cup Winners, is recuperating from colic surgery performed early this morning at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington.
“Awesome Again had an exploratory celiotomy the morning of 9/13/11 for a strangulating lipoma (fatty tumor) of the small colon,” attending surgeon Dr. Alan Ruggles said. “At this time his prognosis is considered favorable barring further complications. He has recovered from general anesthesia and is resting comfortably in his stall.”
Adena Springs general manager Eric Hamelback and resident veterinarian Tom Little are closely monitoring the stallion's recovery.
1998 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again is the sire of 11 G1 Winners, 4 Breeders' Cup Winners including 2004 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Ghostzapper, and 4 multi-millionaires. The 17 year old son of Deputy Minister out of broodmare of the year Primal Force stood the 2010 season at Adena Springs for a fee of $50,000.
