Awesome Again, the cornerstone of the Adena Springs racing and breeding programs for over two decades, has been pensioned from stud duty, BloodHorse reports.
The 25-year-old son of Deputy Minister is a homebred for the Adena Springs operation, with a resume of brass-ring stakes victories including the 1998 Breeders' Cup Classic, the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap, and the Queen's Plate.
He retired to Adena Springs' Kentucky operation, where he has sired 18 crops of racing age with combined earnings in excess of $95 million. His greatest accomplishment at stud has been Ghostzapper, the 2004 Horse of the Year, who stands alongside him at Adena Springs. Ghostzapper won the Breeders' Cup Classic during his Horse of the Year campaign, making Awesome Again the only sire to date to have won the Classic and sired a Classic winner.
Other high-level runners by Awesome Again include champion Ginger Punch, Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Round Pond, Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Wilko, Grade 1 winner Game On Dude, and fan-favorite Paynter. His Triple Crown accomplishments at stud include Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow and Sir Winston, who won this year's edition of the Belmont Stakes.
