Winx, a four-time Australian Horse of the Year, has been confirmed to be in-foal to I Am Invincible for her first pregnancy, the mare's connections announced in a statement Thursday.
The 8-year-old daughter of Street Cry is due in the spring of 2020, per the statement.
“We are very excited about this next stage of her career,” the statement read. “Hopefully she will be blessed with good luck and good health through the balance of her pregnancy delivering a happy and healthy first foal by I Am Invincible.”
Winx retired with 37 wins in 43 starts, including four runnings of the Cox Plate. She caught the eye of the world while compiling a 33-race winning streak to finish up her career, even going so far as to win the Secretariat Vox Populi Award – an honor typically reserved for North American horses – in 2018. She was one of just three horses to be enshrined in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame while still in training.
I Am Invincible, a son of Invincible Spirit, stands at Yarraman Park in Scone, New South Wales. He was Australia's leading freshman sire in the 2013-14 season and later sired a record 28 Australian stakes winners in a season, including Group 1 winners Oohood, Voodoo Lad, Viddora and Invincibella.
The stallion won five of 13 starts during his own racing career, including the Australian Group 3 DC McKay Stakes and the listed Sir John Monash Stakes, both at 1,100 meters (about 5 1/2 furlongs). He also finished second in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap.
“He is a fantastic stallion and we are grateful to the Mitchell family and all of the team at Yarraman Park for their assistance through the breeding season,” the statement read.
