Multiple graded stakes winner Aikenite has been retired after re-injuring an ankle on Sunday while prepping for a start in Saturday's Ack Ack Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs.
The Dogwood Stable colorbearer had returned to training this year after recovering from an ankle injury suffered early last year. The 5-year-old son of Yes It's True has notched victories in the Commonwealth Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland and the Churchill Downs Stakes (gr. II), and has earned $875,385,
Cot Campbell, Dogwood Stable president told BRIS that “Aikenite has been entered in the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale and we have had conversations with farms from a variety of locales about his stallion career.”
