An 8-year-old son of Giant's Causeway, Point Piper was claimed for $10,000 at Del Mar on Monday by trainer Jonathan Wong on behalf of Willow Tree Farm, and drf.com reports that the Grade 3 winner will be retired to stud in California.

Willow Tree is owned by Butch and Lu Thomas, who “are very excited to have the opportunity to stand him.”

Out of a Sadler's Wells mare, Point Piper won the G3 Longacres Mile in 2016 and four other races in 42 lifetime starts. He also finished second 10 times and third five times, and earned a total of $520,415. Point Piper had not won a race in two years, and his last start at the $10,000 tag was the lowest price he'd started for.
