Registration is now open for Monmouth Park's $2,000 Pick Your Prize Handicapping Challenge – one of the country's biggest handicapping contests – on Saturday, June 1.
The innovative handicapping tournament has, in just three years of existence, quickly become a can't-miss-event in the contest world. In 2018, the Pick Your Prize Handicapping Challenge was the only contest in the country to award 20 seats to the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) in Las Vegas. Additional prizes included six full seats to the $10,000 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge, and cash prizes totaling over $78,000. The 2018 edition saw 205 total entries.
In order to participate, contest players must pre-register prior to Monday, May 27. The $1,000 entry fee must be paid in advance with the remaining $1,000 bankroll paid day-of. Entry fees can be paid via credit card, while bankroll payments are cash only. Per contest rules, there is a maximum of two entries per person.
To register, players should contact tournament director Brian Skirka at 732-571-6595 or [email protected].
New for 2019, Pick Your Prize weekend will also consist of a second tournament – this one taking place on Sunday, June 2. The $300 buy-in contest will award a 2020 NHC seat to the Top 3 finishers and cash prizes to the Top 10.
“In talking to players, this new schedule will make the entire weekend a great qualifying opportunity,” Skirka said. “One weekend now has two chances to qualify, which gives out-of-town players a second reason to come out or stay an extra day. It also gives our local players a second contest option at a lower buy-in during Pick Your Prize weekend.”
Players looking to make a hotel reservation for the weekend are recommended to contact the Doubletree Tinton Falls/Eatontown, the newly-renovated Sheraton Eatontown, or the Holiday Inn Express West Long Branch. Players will receive 15% off the normal room price at these three hotels by mentioning Monmouth Park. All hotels are located within 10 minutes of the track.
In total, Monmouth Park will host 11 NHC qualifiers throughout 2019. A full list of contest dates and rules can be found at www.monmouthpark.com.
