Christian Hellmers of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, is first and second place with both entries after day one of the Del Mar Handicapping Challenge. Players started the day with a $3,000 live money bankroll in the two-day Challenge. Hellmers scored in the Bob Hope Stakes, race five, hitting a $100 trifecta paying $20,000+ on both entries.
More than $100,000 in prizes is at stake. First Place takes home $30,000 including a full $10,000 entry in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC). The top three finishers after Sunday's races receive BCBC entries and places 4 through 6 receive entries in the $2.5 million National Horseplayers Championship in February. The winner will be eligible for a $1 million bonus if they win the 2018 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge at Churchill Downs.
