Australian horse owner Joe Rosetti came up with the name “Horsey McHorseFace” for his newly purchased 2-year-old gelding, and convinced partner and trainer Joe Baker to go along with it. The gelding is trained at Sydney's Warwick Farm, and will be expected to debut in mid- to late- May, according to cnn.com.
“Any publicity is good publicity,” said racing manager Jake Bruce. “He's got as good a chance as any to make it and we'd absolutely love to win with him on a big day. It would be a) hilarious and b) great for the owners.”
The name stems from a British public poll to name a $300 million polar research boat, which resulted in “Boaty McBoatFace” as the most popular selection. While the Natural Environment Research Council has not yet decided if they will run with the joke, Bruce and Rosetti will go ahead with Horsey McHorseFace.
“We had a laugh about it in the office and thought, 'Hey, why not',” said Bruce. “Joe's a good bloke and he's a good horse — we just thought it would be a good fit.”
