Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group announced recently that they have started offering veterinary care insurance to companion horses. The policies will be underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Co.
The company, which also offers coverage for dogs, cats and small animals, says companion animals will be covered like any other companion animal, providing financial reimbursement when the horse gets injured or falls ill.
The first horse covered by the new companion horse insurance option was Kachina, a miniature horse at Happy Trails Farm and Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna, Ohio.
The ASPCA pet insurance provided by Crum & Forster covers accidents, injuries, illnesses and other ailments, including colic coverage. Horse owners can add preventative care to their policy at an additional cost. The company reimburses a percentage of the veterinary invoice(s) once a claim is submitted and approved.
Coverage through Crum & Forster is currently available in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
