According to the Kentucky State Veterinarian Dr. Robert Stout, a horse at Turfway Park has been euthanized as a result of the equine herpesvirus (EHV-Type 1 wild strain).
A release from the state office stated that the horse presented neurological signs on Feb. 2 and “continued to deteriorate.” The unidentified horse was euthanized on Friday, and taken to the University of Kentucky's Diagnostic Laboratory for necropsy.
One barn at Turfway Park has been quarantined while the Office of State Veterinarian conducts an investigation.
