In honor of the ten-year anniversary of champion mare Zenyatta's history-making win in the Breeders' Cup Classic, the Retired Racehorse Project is pleased to present a one-of-a-kind shadowbox for auction, featuring halters worn by Zenyatta and her first foal, Cozmic One.
A multiple graded stakes winner, Zenyatta's storied career spanned four years with a remarkable record of 20: 19 – 1- 0 and $7.3 million in earnings. She was the Eclipse Award Horse of the Year in 2010 and was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2016. She was also the runner-up two years in a row for the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year, won in 2009 by Serena Williams and in 2010 by Lindsay Vonn. Zenyatta still has a dedicated fan following and continues to be regarded as one of history's greatest.
Her first foal Cozmic One (2012 by Bernardini) did not perhaps inherit his mother's greatness on the track, but helped demonstrate the versatility and trainability of the Thoroughbred in second careers when he was retired early and started retraining in show jumping with the de Sousa family of Lexington, Kentucky. He shows promise for a successful second career as a show horse.
A letter of authenticity will be included with this beautiful shadowboxed halter set, and proceeds from the auction will benefit the Retired Racehorse Project.
