A horse rescue organization reported Sunday that another half-dozen horses were found dead at an abandoned strip mine in Floyd County, Ky.
The Dumas Rescue said the six horses were in addition to the original 14 or 15 found in the area, and they included a yearling and possibly a pregnant mare.
The Floyd County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths, and a $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible.
Initial reports suggested the horses were shot with a low-caliber rifle(s) and that it appeared the horses were being hunted.
