Graded stakes-winning Prince Lucky, who pulled up in the Grade 3 Harlan's Holiday at Gulfstream Park last weekend with bilateral sesamoid fractures in his right ankle, has successfully undergone surgery. Owner Daniel McConnell told The Blood-Horse Wednesday that the gelding is expected to make a full recovery.
McConnell said he is pondering several retirement options for Prince Lucky, and had been contacted by Turning For Home, the retirement and rehoming program attached to Parx.
McConnell credited jockey John Velazquez for his quick thinking during the race, stopping the horse quickly and likely preventing the injury from becoming more serious.
