The University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Olivia Lorello, VMD, PhD, to New Bolton Center's Equine Field Service team.

“I am beyond excited for this opportunity to work alongside some of the best veterinarians in the world,” said Lorello. “New Bolton Center is uniquely surrounded by a large equine community, with horses of all backgrounds – beloved members of the family to elite athletes with demanding jobs – that enable us to practice medicine ranging from preventative care to high-level performance evaluations.”

After graduating from Penn Vet in 2012, Dr. Lorello completed a year-long internship at B.W. Furlong & Associates in New Jersey. She then moved to Switzerland to earn a PhD from the University of Bern, where she studied cardiovascular disease in equine athletes. Most recently, Lorello was a practicing clinician at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital, a large private practice referral center in Texas.

As a member of New Bolton Center's clinical team, Lorello will bring advanced cardiovascular examinations and exercise testing to Field Service clients, particularly those with sport horses, in order help guide training and prevent sport-related injuries.

In addition, Field Service will now be able to offer equine chiropractic care as part of its suite of on-farm services; a strong complement to the lameness and preventative care expertise already available to clients.

“I firmly believe that offering integrative medicine, which combines 'traditional' veterinary medicine with alternative methods such as acupuncture and chiropractic care, allows us to achieve the best possible results for our equine patients,” said Lorello.

The ambulatory extension of New Bolton Center's hospital, the Equine Field Service team is comprised of specialists who provide routine wellness and emergency care to clients located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. Collectively, the team offers expertise in a variety of specialty areas including preventative health care, reproduction, lameness and pre-purchase examinations, alternative medicine, and on-farm diagnostic services.
