An incident in Knoxvillle, TN resulted in the death of 10 horses on Sunday, reports thehorse.com.
According to the police report, a semi-trailer hauling 30 horses was unable to stop when a second semi-trailer merged into its lane on I-40 trying to avoid a merging flatbed. While neither of the drivers was injured, eight of the horses were killed on impact.
Veterinarian Meggan Graves, a fourth year student at the University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine, euthanized two more horses on the scene due to their injuries. The rest of the horses, unable to be unloaded due to the activity on the interstate, were transferred to the Mascot Stockyard in the damaged truck and trailer to be treated for superficial injuries.
