Following the news of a Quarter Horse euthanized at Ruidoso Downs Friday evening, the track announced that the horse had tested positive for the equine herpesvirus. Ruidoso president Shaun Hubbard, along with a representative of the New Mexico Livestock Board, were pleased to announce Monday that no new positives have been reported, according to the Daily Racing Form.
“The horsemen have been overly cooperative, thankfully, because that's what it takes to come out of these things,” said Hubbard.
The barn where the infected horse resided remains under quarantine through July 1 (14 days from June 17 infection date), but the track, running a mixed meet between Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, continued racing as scheduled over the weekend.
Hubbard says that he hopes the EHV-1 positive was an isolated incident.
