France Galop, the governing body of flat track and steeplechase horse racing in France, has committed €350,000 a year to support Au-Dela Des Pistes [Beyond the Tracks] and the French League for the Protection of the Horse (LFPC). Au-Dela Des Pistes (ADDP) is an industry-led initiative dedicated to the retraining of racehorses that was founded in 2016.
Prior to this financial commitment, France Galop promoted ADDP by allowing demonstrations of retired racehorses in new careers during certain race days. ADDP organizes retired-racehorse only competitions as well as accredits horse trainers and barns they deem suitable to retrain racehorses.
The financial donation by France Galop will allow ADDP to increase the number of horses the organization rehomes; it also helps to improve racing's public image by reinforcing that the racing industry is very concerned with the welfare of racehorses, even once they are retired.
