The ASPCA Help a Horse Home℠ Equine Adoption Challenge was created in 2013 to provide a day of recognition for equine organizations that help home at-risk horses; it also encourages community members to join in their equine adoption efforts.
The 2019 event saw great collaboration between organizations participating in the challenge, crossing both state and regional boundaries. Some organizations matched horses at their rescue with adopters who were working with another rescue in an effort to rehome as many horses as possible.
Sometimes all that is standing in the way of a horse being adopted form a shelter or rescue is his location; equine transportation can be expensive and difficult if the new home is very rural. To combat this roadblock, the ASPCA has created the Teaming Up to Hoof It Home grant, which provides funding for collaborative efforts between adoption groups across state or regional lines.
The ASPCA is offering multiple grants of up to $30,000 each to foster creative collaborations between equine rescue and adoption organizations in an effort to help even more horses find homes.
