Gulfstream Park is hosting the Sunshine Millions Stakes card this Saturday, a series of four stakes races for Florida-breds highlighted by the $200,000 Classic as the second-to-last event on the card.
The nine-furlong contest is topped by Sunshine Millions Classic Preview winner Red Crescent, who was fourth last out in the G3 Harlan's Holiday. A 6-year-old son of Overdriven, Red Crescent tried the Classic Preview in 2017 and wound up fourth. The 2019 edition marked his first stakes win, and the John Vinson trainee is the 5-2 morning line favorite.
Kentucky Oaks and Derby points are also on the line on Saturday, this time at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. The listed Silverbulletday Stakes offers a field of eight topped by G2 Golden Rod-winning filly Finite, trained by Steve Asmussen.
The G3 Lecomte Stakes drew a full field of 14 sophomore colts vying for the winner's 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Scabbard, fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last out, is the slight favorite on the morning line at odds of 7-2. Mr. Monomoy, the half-brother to champion Monomoy Girl, is the second choice at 9-2, and Asmussen trainee Silver State is booked as the 5-1 third choice. Also interesting in the field are Lynn's Map, who defeated Mr. Monomoy by a determined head last out, and Finnick the Fierce, a one-eyed colt who ran an impressive late-closing second last out in the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes.
