An exciting weekend of graded stakes action is on tap for racing fans, with NBC coverage of the Stars & Stripes card at Belmont Park on Saturday. The two features are the Belmont Oaks and Belmont Derby, but international intrigue extends to the Dwyer Stakes on the undercard as well.
Aidan O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore will team up with Mendelssohn in the G3 Dwyer, hoping to get the UAE Derby winner back on track after a disastrous Kentucky Derby day effort. Stablemate Seahenge is also in the mix, while the American-trained bunch is led by Rugbyman and Noble Indy.
Limousine LIberal and Whitmore will battle in the G2 Belmont Sprint Championship, a “Win and You're In” for the Breeders' Cup Sprint. The G2 Suburban field features fan-favorite Hoppertunity and 2017 Belmont winner Tapwrit, as well as Triple Crown-winning Justify's half-brother, The Lieutenant, in from the West Coast.
The Belmont Oaks has drawn a field of 10 sophomore fillies, led by the Chad Brown-trained Significant Form. In the competitive group, other standouts include Brian Lynch's La Signare and O'Brien's Athena. The Belmont Derby features a rematch between Analyze It and Catholic Boy, as well as My Boy Jack making his return to turf. Hawkish and Hunting Horn are also prominent in the nine-horse field.
At Arlington Park, a graded stakes quartet tops Saturday's card. Horses to watch include Daddys Lil Darling in the G3 Modesty and Divisidero in the G3 Arlington Handicap.
Red Ruby stars in the $300,000 Delaware Oaks, while the $200,000 Parx Dash is led by Pure Sensation.
