The major Triple Crown prep race this weekend takes racing fans to Oaklawn Park. Fifty Kentucky Derby points are on the line in the G2 Rebel Stakes, featuring Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up Solomini for trainer Bob Baffert. Todd Pletcher has shipped in Magnum Moon, winner of both his career starts, to make his stakes debut, and the venerable D. Wayne Lukas has entered Grade 1-winning juvenile Sporting Chance.
Another race on the Derby trail is the G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park. Offering 20 points toward the first Saturday in May, the Jeff Ruby Steaks has drawn a wide-open field of 12. Co-favorites at 5-1 are the Pletcher-trained Hazit and Mark Casse trainee Ride a Comet.
Also on Saturday, the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita Park features Mopotism and Fault over nine furlongs on the dirt.
