Eclipse Award winner Good Magic will make his 2018 debut in this weekend's Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park, with 50 points toward the Kentucky Derby on the line. The Chad Brown trainee will face a field of nine other sophomores, including Breeders' Futurity winner Free Drop Billy and Strike Power, the latter especially impressive over one turn last out to win the Swale by 2 3/4 lengths.
Also at Gulfstream this weekend is the G2 Davona Dale, which offers points toward the Kentucky Oaks. Allowance winner Fly So High is the heavy favorite on the morning line. On the other side of the country, more Oaks points are offered in the G3 Santa Ysabel at Santa Anita, where a six-horse field is led by the undefeated Dream Tree.
Other major races across the world this weekend include Winx's run toward a world record-equaling 16th Group 1 victory at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. That record is currently held by John Henry.
At Gulfstream, some of the major players in the weekend's undercard stakes include Queen's Plate winner Holy Helena in the The Very One, G1 winner Celestine in the listed Sand Springs Stakes, Canadian star Shakhimat in the Canadian Turf, and Grade 1 winner Sadler's Joy in the Mac Diarmida.
