This weekend's graded stakes action begins with Los Alamitos' CashCall Futurity headlines the track's Saturday card with a pair of Bob Baffert trainees heavily favored on the morning line. McKinzie is the slight top choice over his stablemate Solomini; the latter was most recently second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
The Starlet features juvenile fillies at Los Alamitos, vying for a chance at the Kentucky Oaks in May. Again, Baffert will saddle the morning-line favorite in Dream Tree, though Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies fifth-place finisher Piedi Bianchi could pose a threat in the smaller field.
Gulfstream is playing host to the Group 1 Clasico del Caribe for the first time in its history. The field of 12 features El Cubita, thrice second in Group 1 company in Venezuela, as well as Puerto Rican Triple Crown champion Justiciero.
Late Friday night/early Sunday morning in Hong Kong will be the Longines International races. Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Stormy Liberal and Turf hero Talismanic will each take part in one of the event's four Grade 1 contests.
Sunday at Woodbine, the Grade 3 Valedictory Stakes over 1 3/4 miles features the ever-consistent Ontario-bred Melmich.
