This weekend's racing action features five North American opportunities to earn automatic berths into the Breeders' Cup this fall at Del Mar.
The G3 Iroquois Stakes Saturday at Churchill Downs is a “Win and You're In” to the BC Juvenile, and offers a full field of ten 2-year-olds. Saratoga Special runner-up Hollywood Star is the morning-line favorite over Bashford Manor victor Ten City, and Skidmore Stakes winner Flameaway is the third choice.
Saturday's G2 Pocahontas drew a field of 12 to compete for a berth in the BC Juvenile Fillies. Trainer Kenny McPeek's entry Sunny Skies is the slight favorite on the morning line.
In the G1 Woodbine Mile on Saturday, a berth to the BC Mile is on the line. International shipper Deauville will be tough, but World Approval ran extremely well last out. Mondialiste won this race two years ago, and should be prepared to put in a good effort.
Sunday, Woodbine's G2 Summer Stakes offers a berth to the Juvenile Turf, while the G1 Natalma is a “Win and You're In” for the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Wesley Ward trainee Hemp Hemp Hurray is favored for the Summer Stakes, while Todd Pletcher trainee March X Press is favored for the Natalma.
