The G2 Delaware Handicap and G3 Indiana Derby are the highlights of this Saturday's graded stakes action in the United States. Dual Grade 1 winner Elate will make her 4-year-old debut in the $750,000 Delaware 'Cap, taking on a well-matched field of eight other fillies and mares over 1 1/4 miles. The biggest threats are Unbridled Mo and Farrell, each of which already own at least one win over several starts in 2018.
In the Indiana Derby, Dale Romans-trained King Zachary is the morning-line favorite at 6-5 after his impressive win in the Matt Winn last time out. A couple of West Coast challengers, Axelrod and Blame the Rider, will take him on over the 1 1/16-mile distance, and Pat Day Mile winner Funny Duck could pose an upset chance with any rain on the course. Another who rates a chance could be Title Ready, as Steve Asmussen's regular rider Ricardo Santana returns to the irons.
The Indiana Oaks is another strong contest, with young trainer Rodolphe Brisset saddling the favorite in Talk Veuve to Me. Skeptic steps up to graded company for the first time, but has won each of her last two starts, and the somewhat inconsistent Kelly's Humor could be due to step up on the stretch out to two turns.
Ax Man disappointed last time out for trainer Bob Baffert, but he will try to redeem himself in the Los Alamitos Derby against a field of four other sophomore colts. Peter Pan winner Blended Citizen always seems to run his race, and Draft Pick has won his last two starts for trainer Peter Eurton.
