Saturday's graded stakes action is highlighted by the G2 Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds, the first 50-point race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Mark Casse-trained War of Will is the expected favorite, but the full field of 14 features several solid underdogs in Country House, Plus Que Parfait, Owendale, and Limonite.
The rest of Fair Grounds' Saturday card is full of good stakes action, with the G2 Rachel Alexandra for 3-year-old fillies, the Mineshaft on the main track, and the very contentious Fair Grounds Handicap.
Laurel Park also offers a good Saturday card, topped by a pair of graded sprint stakes, and the Santa Monica at Santa Anita should also be interesting with Paradise Woods, Dream Tree, Marley's Freedom, and Selcourt all in the mix.
Monday's card at Oaklawn Park features the $500,000 Southwest Stakes, another 50-point prep on the Triple Crown trail. This one features Todd Pletcher trainee Cutting Humor, Gray Attempt, and Sueno in the 12-strong field.
