A trio of graded stakes highlight this Saturday's racing action in North America, starting with the G3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct. The 1 3/8-mile turf contest drew three entrants from trainer Mike Maker, including the 5-2 morning line favorite Zulu Alpha. The New York-bred Call Provision has a strong chance for trainer Chad Brown, as does Shug McGaughey trainee Inspector Lynley.
At Churchill Downs, the G3 River City is a nine-furlong turf contest. Mr. Misunderstood will try to find his way back to the winner's circle for trainer Brad Cox, while Michael Matz trainee Postulation appears to be on an upswing and could pose a major threat.
In Del Mar's G3 Bob Hope Stakes, juveniles will try seven furlongs over the main track. Trainer Bob Baffert will saddle the favorite, Mucho Gusto, who won by four lengths in his debut at Los Alamitos. Extra Hope has more race experience and appears to be putting all the pieces together for Richard Mandella, and Sparky Ville won a listed stakes race last out at Santa Anita.
