At last week's Round Table on Matters Pertaining to Racing, The Jockey Club announced a further reduction in the annual foal crop. More of the best horses seem to falling into the hands of fewer trainers who are dominating the sport, making it difficult for smaller and mid-sized stables to compete at the top level.
In this week's edition of the Friday Show, while Scott Jagow is enjoying a vacation, Ray Paulick is joined at Del Mar by two-time Eclipse Award-winning writer John Scheinman to discuss the issue of “super trainers” like Chad Brown and others and whether racing should look to institute policies similar to what major league sports have done with a salary cap.
In addition, they take a look at Saturday's Grade 1 TVG Pacific Classic, part of a cross-country Pick 5 with two graded stakes (including the G1 Alabama) from Saratoga and the Del Mar Handicap and Del Mar Oaks from the seaside track.
