Ben Posen grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from the University of Minnesota. He started his career as a stock broker at Paine Webber. Ben owns a $1 billion registered investment advisor called Lindbrook Capital.
Who was the first horse you ever owned?
My brother used to play pick up hockey with a trainer. Within a year my father had 10 horses. The first claim we claimed was a horse named Allo's Wish. He was claimed from us the next race.
Best moment in horse racing?
The first horse I bought a sale was at Canterbury Downs when I was in college at the University of Minnesota. Her name was Green Vitamins. I think we paid $1,000 … A few months after we bought her she won the Northern Lights Debutante with 30 of my friends from college in the winners' circle.
What do you love most about Horse Racing?
The horses are amazing athletes. I've also met a bunch of friends through horse racing.
What is the main reason you co-own with others?
You get to have all of the fun for a fraction of the money. Getting LRF emails.
If you were horse racing commissioner for a day, what one change would you make?
I've introduced a bunch of my friends to horse racing that have never been exposed to it before they met me. I would try and do that on a larger scale. Del Mar does this every summer.
