Horses competing in the Preakness Stakes that also ran in the Kentucky Derby have an excellent track record in the second leg of the Triple Crown. But you only have to go back two years to find a Preakness winner that skipped the Derby (Cloud Computing). This year's field of 13 is split 9 to 4 in favor of horses that didn't run in the Derby.
