The spotlight stallion in this week's edition of In the Stud is Exaggerator, a 4-year-old son of Curlin standing his first season at WinStar Farm.
Exaggerator, out of the Vindication mare, Dawn Raid, is Curlin's only 2-year-old graded stakes winner currently at stud. As a juvenile, Exaggerator triumphed in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes in his third career start. He then went on to win the G3 Delta Downs Jackpot that same season.
As a 3-year-old, Exaggerator proved the only sophomore in the country to capture three G1 victories. After winning the G1 Santa Anita Derby to stamp his ticket to Louisville, Exaggerator was a game second to Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist. Two weeks later, he turned the tables on that foe and took the Preakness, relishing the sloppy conditions at Pimlico. His third G1 win of the year came in similar conditions last summer when he prevailed in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth.
In his two seasons on the track, Exaggerator displayed toughness and grit, racing 15 times at 10 different tracks coast-to-coast. He claimed four races worth a million dollars and ended his career with earnings of more than $3.5 million. He won six of his starts, hitting the board four other times.
