Some horses, like a fine wine, get better with age. One has to look no further for an example of this than Forte Dei Marmi (GB), winner of Sunday's Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf at Woodbine.
The Northern Dancer victory was the first G1 stakes win for the 7-year-old gelding, who is in the midst of the best season of his career. In 2013, Forte Dei Marmi has won half of his six starts and rattled off three straight stakes victories. As a result, the Roger Attfield trainee makes his first appearance on the American Graded Stakes Standings list of leading stakes winners.
In addition to the Northern Dancer victory, Forte Dei Marmi has won the G3 Singspiel and the G2 Sky Classic. The Sky Classic triumph also saw the gelding set a new course record at Woodbine, covering 10 furlongs in 2:00.12.
On the AGS sire list, War Front continues his red-hot season, moving into a tie with Kitten's Joy at the top with seven graded stakes winners. War Front's newest winner is the 3-year-old filly Peace Preserver, who captured the G3 Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont Park Saturday.
