When last year’s 2-year-old-horse-of-the-year, Hansen, enters the gate to run in the 138th Kentucky Derby he will, of course, be running to win, and if things work out, he’ll also be helping to support the development of the Thoroughbred racing fan base.

ThoroFan Chairman, Michael Amo, announced that he has been contacted by Dr. Kendall Hansen, owner of Hansen, who has made the Thoroughbred Racing Fan Association, Inc. (ThoroFan) an incredibly generous offer. In an e-mail received on April 19′” through www.thorofan.com. Dr. Hansen wrote, “Let me know if there is anything I can do for your great organization.” In a subsequent e-mail, Hansen’s owner offered some help.

Referencing potential winnings from Hansen on May 5th at Churchill Downs, Dr. Hansen wrote, “I will donate 1% of my share of the winnings from the Kentucky Derby.” Amo said, “Dr. Hansen’s offer and willingness to help build the racing fan base – a major goal of ThoroFan- is just the thing that is needed. Members of ThoroFan, especially the Kentucky Chapter, will be out in full force cheering for our newest member, Hansen”.

Dr. Hansen, also, said that he … “can raise awareness through speaking up about the two charities Hansen will be running for in the Derby-ThoroFan and New Vocations. New Vocations is an organization that works to find retired race horses new professions.

ThoroFan is a national, non-profit Thoroughbred Racing Fan Association, Inc. which was established in 2008 to retain and enrich existing fans, seek out and attract new fans and give each fan, regardless of involvement, a voice to the industry

THE MAN loves RACE HORSES…need we say more???…

  • guest

Thats $600 if he is lucky enough to finish 5th. Guess its the thought that counts!

  • JC

Best wishes to all riders and horses for a safe trip in the Derby, and good luck to the beautiful Hansen… :-)

I think its great a time to speak up and stay positive about the
industry. He has developed a fairly large fan base, and he’s drawing
attention in the masses to his sport. Even if it is through attempting
to  paint his horse. I love his PR moves, lets hope Hansen  can make
    some of his own.

Oh goody, another 1 Per Cent Movement.

Look.  Donate.  Where you go, doesn’t matter.  Contribute.

    Then KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.

No grandstanding, please.  Not even the appearence of it should be encouraged.

  • Big Red

This guy really loves the publicity.
Just make a donation and shut up.
Like I said before, “The Great White Dope”.

  • The_Knight_Sky

    … and blue tails.

  • John2g

Just by the fact that he is donating to a completely useless and dysfunctional “so called” organization shows his true ignorance towards this industry.

  • Nucky Thompson

Dr Hansen reminds me of Max Bialystock from The Prioducers giving away all these little percentages. I have another suggestion for Dr Hansen  - link up with White Horse Scotch whisky. Now that would be a promotion much more to my taste.

You’re a good and generous guy, Doc! Keep up the good work (but let go of carousel colored horses tails (love yah) )
Don’t let negative nellies nag you down, they’re like Oddball said: “Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves.”

    PS White horses rule!

  • Ida Lee

I don’t know what to think about Dr. Hansen. He’s got a stunningly beautiful and talented horse (whom he names after himself) and he keeps saying and doing things to make him look silly or even a little out there and he’s a DOCTOR. You would think that he would be a little more oh I don’t know…serious? Wanting to paint Hansen blue or pink was not one of his greatest moments.  Maybe he needs to hire a professional public relations firm to help him…when you announce you’re giving money to charity and even then you get negative feedback, well you really do need help. Not even the heavenly Hansen can help his image.

  • Upstart

Dr. Hansen you are an example for all horse owners to follow…your sheer enjoyment brings a smile to my face!  Thank you for your generous contributions and the absolute joy you show….horse racing could use a whole lot more of your enthusiasm.  Lots of luck.
