Baffert has Belmont wild card in Paynter

Even though Bodemeister has been sent back to Santa Anita for a well-deserved break, trainer Bob Baffert will still be represented in the Belmont Stakes by Zayat Stables’ Paynter.

The son of Awesome Again, winner of an allowance race on the Preakness undercard, worked five furlongs over the Belmont Park training track in 59.26 on Sunday morning.

Also on the Belmont work tab on Sunday was Godolphin’s Alpha, who went five furlongs in 1:01.93.

    This horse is a freak. Broke his maiden 5 1/2 f easily at SA and was immediately sent to the SA Derby. Went to his nose at the start an finished 4th. A clear fourth 3 lengths behind IHA and Creative Cause. Without enough earnings he went to the Derby Trial and caught a terrible track (sloppy) and ran 2nd caught at the wire. pointed to the Preakness then showed up on the undercard, went off at 1-9 and won by 7 in a hand ride. Wise move on Bafferts part. Nice prep.

    Daddy won the Belmont and mom is full sister to Tiznow and Budroyale. Will get the distance and upset IHA. Unless Oneil gets to swing by the malt shop early

    Baffert seems to be turning into Lukas, dance every dance, shoot for the sky with every horse, never pass up an opportunity, im surprised that Bode isnt in the Belmont, after all, it is a race he’s eligible to.

     I don’t get it. His Pimlico allowance race was not impressive. I don’t believe the Beyer for that rrace was even close to 106. Lets see wins at Pimlico at 1 1/16 and now steps up to 1 1/2 miles!!!!!!!!! Allowance to Belmont Stakes. Seems Baffert is wishing for a miracle.

    Bob spots almost all of his horses very well and wins/ITM in a high percentage of stakes races. Had a good holiday weekend, too. Not even sure why you would make the off base comparison. I think the only reason Lukas is entering two in the Belmont is so he can beat at least one home.

    Paynter is by Awesome Again, who won the BC Classic at 4 and the Queen’s Plate at 3. Awesome Again’s stablemate at the time, Touch Gold (also by Deputy Minister), won the 1997 Belmont Stakes.
