“We look forward to seeing how well the fans’ picks align with the Eclipse Award champions who will be announced on Saturday,” said John Hartig, CEO, Daily Racing Form. “Daily Racing Form readers are deeply knowledgeable and passionate about their favorite horses and players, and their choices are usually a strong indicator of who will be named the best of the best in each category.”

Voter April Ward of Long Beach, California was selected at random as the winner of Daily Racing Form’s Eclipse Award Fan Vote Sweepstakes. April’s prize package features a 3 day/2 night trip, including airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation and event tickets, for her and a guest to attend the January 19 Eclipse Award ceremony. In addition, they will be treated to a VIP experience at Gulfstream Park.

As to why she cast her vote for Horse of the Year to enter the sweepstakes, April says, “I have been familiar with Daily Racing Form forever. I have never been to Gulfstream Park and thought it would be fun to go to the awards dinner. I love I’ll Have Another so I had to choose him.”

I’d agree with most of these. I heartily agree with HOY. 3-year old colt? Well, I’m in two minds. I think durability should count – but then who among the stars would we pick? Groupie Doll and Royal Delta – no argument there. I confess to being a Groupie Doll groupie too!

I’ll be interested to see what the actual awards are.

I need some help remembering what 3yr old colt was durble that won a grade 1,
besides Dullahan, I really don’t think he had a championship season.
