A late-closing Willcox Inn and jockey James Graham made it to the wire at just the right time to edge rival Gallant Eagle (IRE) in the Grade 3 Washington Park Handicap at Arlington Park on Saturday.
The 5-year-old sat far back early and made a sweeping move in the turn to challenge early leader Gallant Eagle for owners Lael Stable and All In Stable. The victory was the first for Willcox Inn since an allowance optional claiming win last summer. Most recently, he finished fifth in the Grade 1 United Nations in July.
Willcox Inn is trained by Michael Stidham and was bred in Kentucky by Dr. John Chandler. He is the son of Harlan's Holiday and Gone West mare De Aar.
Hattaash was third. The final time for the 1 1/8 miles on an all-weather track was 1:49.62.
