Longshot Was, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Seamus Heffernan, won the Epsom Oaks over longshot Shirocco Star, reports the Racing Post. Favored The Fugue finished third. The win was the first major British win for Heffernan. For O’Brien, the victory by Was, was O’Brien’s 200th Group 1 triumph and his fourth win in the Oaks. The win was also the first Oaks win for sire Galileo.

Paying tribute to Heffernan, O’Brien said: “He gave her a lovely ride. He’s a great fella and a world-class jockey – he always has been. He knows the horses inside out and nobody deserves it more.”

On Saturday, O’Brien will attempt to complete the Oaks-Derby double when he saddles Camelot and Astrology for the Derby.
