Something Extra took the lead shortly after the start and never looked back as he cruised to a comfortable 2 1/2-length victory in the Connaught Cup Stakes (Can-IIT) at Woodbine May 27.

Ridden confidently by Eurico Rosa da Silva, Something Extra (Indian Charlie-Our Mariah, by Mt. Livermore) galloped along easily on the front end, opening up a clear lead after the first quarter mile. As the gelding entered the homestretch he was still coasting in front, and sailed under the wire an easy winner.

Big Band Sound closed from far back to take second, with Artic Fern another three-quarters of a length back in third.

Final time for the seven furlongs was 1:20.69 over a firm turf course.

Something Extra was bred in Kentucky by Gulf Coast Farms. He is trained by Gail Cox, who owns him in partnership with John Menary.
