The connections of Shared Belief, winner of the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity, are considering the one-mile $100,000 Sham Stakes on Jan. 11 at Santa Anita for the colt’s next start, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer told the Daily Racing Form. A leading contender for the Eclipse award for outstanding 2-year-old, he had his first workout over the track’s dirt surface on Saturday, covering five furlongs in 1:02.20.

Undefeated in three career starts, Shared Belief has only worked and raced over synthetic surfaces at Golden Gate Fields and Betfair Hollywood Park. “I haven’t really mapped out a schedule for him,” Hollendorfer told the Form. “He seems to be doing well.”

Hollendorfer said that another option may be the $200,000 Robert Lewis Stakes on Feb. 8 over 1 1/16 miles.
