Shakin It Up returns to the races with a victory in the G1 Malibu Stakes Shakin It Up returns to the races with a victory in the G1 Malibu Stakes

All eyes were on heavily-favored Flashback, but in the end it was the other Bob Baffert trainee, Shakin It Up that shook things up to win the G1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Dec. 26.

It was the first start for the 3-year-old son of Midnight Lute since his fourth-place finish in the G3 Sunland Derby March 24. Prior to that, Shakin It Up won the G2 San Vincente Stakes.

Shakin It Up outlasted the late charge of Central Banker to win by a half-length, with Zeewat finishing third.

Final time for the seven furlongs was 1:20.53.

Shakin It Up was bred in Kentucky by Mike Pegram, who co-owns the colt with Dennis Cardoza. Shakin It Up is out of the Vindication mare, Silver Bullet Moon, a daughter of champion Silverbulletday.
