Trainer D. Wayne Lukas has indicated that his G1 Preakness Stakes champ Oxbow will make his next start in the G1 William Hill Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park July 28.
According to the Daily Racing Form, Lukas said that the Grade 1 status and the $1 million purse of the Haskell influenced his decision to run in that race as opposed to the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes, which is run July 27. As a winner of a Triple Crown race, both Lukas and the owner, Brad Kelly, each receive $25,000 simply for running in the Haskell.
Oxbow will face G1 winners Verrazano and Power Broker in the Haskell, in addition to recent Long Branch Stakes winner, Micromanage.
