On Fire Baby wins Honeybee S

On Fire Baby, who finished fifth in the Kentucky Oaks, is now scheduled to run in the Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park on Monday’s Memorial Day card, reports the Daily Racing Form. On Fire Baby worked a bullet five furlongs in 59.60 seconds on Saturday morning at Churchill Downs. Trainer Gary Hartlage said the work looked super and because he liked what he saw they decided to go to the New York race.

“She’s doing so good that we just thought we’d give this a try,” Hartlage said Tuesday. “She’s never been beat around one turn, and I thought her race in the Oaks was good. We’re just staying on the path we think she needs to be on.”
