Central Michigan racetrack Mt. Pleasant Meadows has received approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board for a 43-day race meet in 2014. The meet, which runs the same number of days that it did this year, will include Thoroughbreds as well as Quarter Horse, Arabian, Paint, and Appaloosa racing.
According to a report by the Daily Racing Form, the state's Standardbred tracks also opened the door to host Thoroughbred and mixed-breed racing in 2014. The harness tracks must meet a series of guidelines to amend their licenses by Dec. 1.
Each race card must contain at least nine races; traditionally, Mt. Pleasant has run seven Thoroughbred races each card and set aside two for other breeds.
