Love and Pride wires field in Obeah Stakes
Love and Pride took the lead at the start and never looked back as she easily held off favored Tiz Miz Sue to win the $150,000 Obeah Stakes (gr. III) at Delaware Park June 16.
Trained by Todd Pletcher for Green Hills Farm, Love and Pride (A.P. Indy-Ile de France, by Storm Cat) was able to set an easy pace on the front end under jockey Jeremy Rose. The 4-year-old filly opened up by about two lengths on the field while rattling off early fractions of 23.41 and 47.71 under just mild pressure from Suroof.
As the field hit the top of the stretch, heavy favorite Tiz Miz Sue made her bid but was no match for the winner, who crossed the wire a 1 3/4-length winner. Tiz Miz Sue had to settle for second, nine lengths in front of Check Point.
Final time for the nine furlongs was 1:49.40 over the fast main track.
The victory improved Love and Pride’s record to five wins in 13 starts for earnings of $370,760.
Love and Pride was bred in Kentucky by Stud TNT.
