Fiftyshadesofhay wore down challenger So Many Ways in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows on Saturday evening. The heavily-favored Bob Baffert trainee sat off the pace through the stretch and gradually overtook the early leader through the turn, to kick clear in the stretch under Martin Garcia.
The 3-year-old filly, owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman, most recently won the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes after hitting the board in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks and Las Virgenes Stakes. She won the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel to kick off her 2013 season.
Fiftyshadesofhay was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, and is the daughter of Pulpit and Real Quiet mare Quiet Kim.
Seaneen Girl was second, followed by So Many Ways. The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:44.65. See the full chart here.
