Del Mar's popular summer meet kicks off today with a competitive renewal of the Oceanside Stakes on the turf. As usual, the race has been split into two divisions due to an overflow of entries.
The Oceanside is the first leg of a three-race turf series for 3-year-olds that includes the G2 La Jolla Handicap on Aug. 10 and G2 Del Mar Derby on Sept. 1.
Undrafted headlines the first division of ten 3-year-olds. The gelded son of Purim has won both of his turf starts for trainer Wesley Ward. Undrafted cruised to a sharp victory in a turf allowance at Churchill Downs in his most recent start.
Den's Legacy, winner of the G3 Generous Stakes on the turf as a juvenile, takes on nine talents rivals in the second division. In addition to Den's Legacy, other runners include Joelito, Rosengold, and Gabriel Charles.
