Brown Almighty, who exited his fifth-place finish in the Jan. 21 Smarty Jones with a severe lung infection, has completed his treatment and showed he’s ready to get back in the Triple Crown hunt by working seven furlongs Friday in 1:27 1/5 over a fast track.
“For him, I wish the track had been a little tighter, but he got over it well,” said trainer Tim Ice. “It was a good work. He’ll come back next week and go 5/8th.”
Ice said that they scoped the Big Brown colt after his work and everything was clear. He also indicated that the colt’s immediate goal would be the $300,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) Monday, Feb. 18, the special Presidents Day feature.
