Breeders’ Cup on far horizon for Mott’s stars; Churchill reports on-track handle increases for Foster card

Ron the Greek and Royal Delta, both impressive winners for trainer Bill Mott at Churchill Downs on the Stephen Foster card, came out of their races in good order it was reported by the Daily Racing Form on Sunday.

Ron the Greek, who captured the Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) by a head over Wise Dan, will get a short break before being pointed toward the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) later in the year.

Royal Delta, who cruised to an easy eight-length victory in the Fleur de Lis (gr. II), may run next in the Delaware Handicap (gr. II) on July 21.

Officials at Churchill Downs reported that the on-track attendance for the Stephen Foster program, the first ever run at night, was 25,417. The all-sources handle of $7,960,789 essentially remained even with the comparable Foster Day program of 2011, while the on-track handle of $1,552,584 was up 60 percent

    the stupid thing is Churchill does the hard part with the After Dark programs and draws in the people; but after the races are over party people stay but gamblers who want more action they drive 30 mins west to Indiana – But the City of Louisville doesn’t need or want that revenue because of all the money collected from the “Fourth Meal” center Ohh wait the management’s been replaced because of revenue shortfalls, high operating expenses and the bonds have been downgraded to “junk” status outlook negative.
